Copywriting

Freelance copywriting by the day or by the project.

I’ve been writing words professionally for more than 20 years: my first piece of journalism was published in J17 magazine (if you want to carbon date my portfolio).

Since then, I’ve…

Written for The Guardian, The Independent, The Independent on Sunday, stylist.co.uk, New Statesman, InStyle and Marie Claire Runway.

Sub-edited for those same titles plus Sunday Times Style, ELLE, Marks & Spencer, WGSN, LivingEtc and Wallpaper*.

Written copy in-house, via agency, and freelance, for clients including Victoria Beckham, MADE.com, Fortnum & Mason, Mornflakes, Northern Powergrid, Glasgow Breakthroughs, WWF, Save Our Mangroves Now!, Tock Insurance and Insure Our Future.

Plus I’ve popped up occasionally on the BBC, written two novels for young adults, proofread for publishers including Scholastic and Unbound and layout sub-edited for journals including Wound International and Diabetic Foot Journal.

So, what can I write for you?

  • Everything, from scratch: brand guidelines, style guide and tone of voice documents, plus web copy and marketing materials.

  • Perhaps you’ve had an SEO review and realised everything needs an overhaul? At M&S I was part of the award-winning team who created a 100% YoY increase in clicks thanks to our polished SEO-driven rewrites of the entire back catalogue of marketing material. (That’s a lot of words, and a lot of fabric.)

  • Maybe you’ve got the words already, but it’s all a bit flat: you’re in search of some pizzazz. (Not to mention someone who can spell pizzazz first time out to bat.)

  • Sometimes you’ve got a big pile of research, a brief, and an ideal outcome, but you need someone to sift through it all and help it all make sense — I can add structure, suggest formats, and give it all a rejig. (Or a jig, if it really is still in a big pile.)

Fill in my contact form to get in touch: give me a brief and, after I’ve asked you dozens of questions, we’ll go from there.
